Description

This is a large object, similar to a container used for pouring liquids. It was discovered in 1950 by a farmer near the town of Chua, close to Lake Titicaca. The object is now displayed in the Museum of Precious Metals, "Museo de Oro," located on Jaén Street in La Paz, Bolivia. Some of the carvings inside the object look somewhat like Mesopotamian cuneiform writing from a culture other than Sumerian. Alexander H. Joffe has proposed that the markings may be geometric patterns or meaningless symbols. He also noted that the face inside the object appears more similar to artwork created by the local Tiwanaku culture, which existed around 200 to 1000 CE.
