Description

This is a large object, similar to a container used for pouring liquids. It was discovered in 1950 by a farmer near the town of Chua, close to Lake Titicaca. The item is now displayed at the Museum of Precious Metals, called "Museo de Oro," located on Jaén Street in La Paz, Bolivia. Some of the carvings inside the object appear to look somewhat like non-Sumerian Mesopotamian cuneiform writing. Alexander H. Joffe has proposed that the markings may be random geometric shapes or meaningless symbols. He also noted that the image on the inside seems more likely to be connected to the local Tiwanaku culture, which existed from around 200 to 1000 CE.
