Orgueil is a town in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region of southern France. It is also called "Orgulh" in the Occitan language. The French pronunciation is [ɔʁɡœj].
History
Orgueil has been around for over 1,000 years. It was first recorded in the 9th century, when it was part of Saint-Sernin Abbey in Toulouse.
On May 14, 1864, a rare type of meteorite fell in the area. This meteorite is now called the Orgueil meteorite. For scientific study, it was divided into several pieces. These pieces are now displayed in museums across Europe and the United States. The Museum of Natural History in Montauban, Tarn-et-Garonne, France, has a large piece of the meteorite that weighs 11 kilograms.
