The Parknabinnia wedge tomb is a prehistoric wedge tomb found in the Burren area of County Clare, Ireland.

Location

The tomb is found on Roughan Hill in the townland of Parknabinnia, within the parish of Kilnaboy. It can be seen from a nearby road, but it is on private land. Many other ancient structures are present on this hill, including additional tombs, remains of houses, and old field walls. The Creevagh wedge tomb is approximately 2.3 kilometers away.

Parknabinnia is home to one of eighty wedge tombs that still exist in Clare. The greatest number of these tombs is located on Roughan Hill.

Description

The tomb has a wedge shape, with the widest part facing southwest toward the setting sun, as is common for tombs of this type. The setting sun may have been important to the people who built it. Two stones blocked the entrance, and one might have been able to be moved.

No wedge-shaped tombs in the Burren have been excavated yet. The Roughan Hill tombs are believed to be from 2300 to 2000 BC.
